Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the cyberbullying and cyber victimization experiences of high school students and the relationship between these experiences and students' school engagement in terms of various variables. The universe of the research consists of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students studying in public schools in the province of Şahinbey, Gaziantep in the 2021-2022 academic year. Consisting of 772 students in total, the research is a relational study including causal comparison. In the research, "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher, "Cyber Victimization and Cyber Bullying Scale" and "School Engagement Scale" were used. Independent Groups T Test, one-way ANOVA, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis H Test and Spearman-rho analyzes were used to analyze the data. In the study, no significant difference was found between female and male students in terms of cyberbullying-victimization experiences and school engagement. It has been determined that 10th grade students have more bullying experiences than other grade levels and as the grade level increases, students' commitment to school increases. No relationship was found between the education level of the parents and the cyberbullying and cyber victimization experiences of the students. It was found that school engagement scores were highest in students whose mother's education level was high school, and the lowest school engagement scores in students whose mother's education level was undergraduate. No relationship was found between father's education level and students' school engagement. It has been determined that the average income level of the family does not predict the cyberbullying and cyber victimization experiences of the students, the students with the average family income at the minimum wage level have the highest level of commitment to school, while the students whose family income is above the minimum wage have the lowest level of commitment to school. There is no significant difference between school type and cyber victimization experiences. It was found that the cyberbullying experiences of the Anatolian Vocational High School and Social Sciences High School students were higher than the students studying in other school types. It has been determined that the students of Anatolian Imam Hatip High School are less committed to the school than the students studying at Anatolian High School and Science High School. No significant difference was found between the time spent on the Internet and the cyberbullying-victimization experiences and academic achievements of the students. However, it was determined that the students with the lowest level of commitment to school were the students with the lowest grade point average. There is no significant difference between the age of the students and their cyberbullying-victimization experiences and school commitment. A positive relationship between cyber bullying and cyber victimization was found and a negative relationship was found between cyber bullying and cyber victimization experiences and school commitment.
