Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine high school teachers' opinions on unionization in Eskişehir city centre. High school teachers' opinions on unionization were examined by considering variables such as gender, seniority, duty, educational status, employment place, syndical membership and the syndicate enrolled. The required data for the study were gathered by means of literature search and questionnaire conduct. The data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed by using the package programme SPSS 17.0 for Windows (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). In the first part of the questionnaire, there are nine questions in order to determine teachers' personal details, and there are fifty two questions in the second part. The average frequency, percentage and arithmetic value of the teachers' personal information were calculated. For the data gathered from the second part of the questionnaire, Normality Test was applied. For this, Kolmogorov-Smirnow Test was done, but after having seen the data didn't show normal distribution, it was decided that Nonparametric Statistical Method should be employed. In data analysis, firstly, frequency (f), percentage (%) and arithmetic averages for all independent variables were calculated. Then, Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis H Test among nonparametric statistics were used. In comparison of quantitative data, Mann Whitney U Test in order to test the difference between at most 2 independent averages and Kruskal Wallis H Test in order to compare parameter groups if there are more than two groups were done. Also, the relation between the independent variables of the research was tested with Spearman Correlation analysis. The data gathered was estimated at 95% confidence interval and 5% significance level. The results of the research: High school teachers generally have a positive approach to unionization. It has been found that there is no statistically significant difference between high school teachers' opinions on unionization in terms of gender, duty, seniority, educational status and employment place. It has been found that there is a positive correlation between teachers' expectations from syndicates and their reasons for unionization in teachers' opinions related to unionization. As teachers' expectations from syndicates increase, their reasons for unionization increase. Keywords: Syndicate, Public Servant, Teacher, Organization.
