Analysing the psychological resilience level of high school senior students in the context of the perceptions of the university entrance exam

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed whether psychological resilience of high school senior students changes considering their metaphorical perception related to university entrance exam, attitudes toward it as an opportunity or a threat with gender, school type, perceived socioeconomic status, family togetherness, problematic internet usage and to analyse the predictability of psychological resilience of high school seniors five factor model of personality with regard to the exam an opportunity or a threat. Study group consists of 971 high school senior students. Content analysis, t test, one and two way analysis of variance, stepwise regression analysis were used in the analysis of datas acquired by using Child and Young Resilience Measure, Problematic Internet Usage Scale-Adolescent Form, Adjective Based Personality Scale and Personal Information Questionnaire. Study results showed while 27,9% of the students see the university enterance exam as an opportunity, 68,9% of them perceive it as a threat, 3,2% of them perceive it as a neutral. It was observed that psychological resilience changes with regard to seeing the exam as an opportunit or a threat, socioeconomic status, family togetherness and problematic internet usage while it doesn't change considering the gender and school type. However, there is not a significant difference between personal variables and students seeing the exam as an opportunity or a threat interactions. It revealed while from the five factor personality model, conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion positively predictedfor psychological resilience of high school seniors seeing the exam as an opportunity, conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness positively predicted for psychological resilience of those seeing the exam as a threat.
