Teacher opinions on innovation management skills of school administrators and organizational learning mechanisms at high schools

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine high school teachers' opinions on innovation management skills of school administrators and organizational learning mechanism at high schools. Accordingly, teachers' opinions on innovation management skills of school administrators, and organizational learning mechanism were identified. Afterwards whether teachers' personal traits have an effect on their views was investigated, and then the relationship between teachers' views on school administratiors' innovation management skills and organizational learning mechanisms was investigated. The population of the research consists of 790 high school teachers working in central district of Bolu in 2013-2014 educational year. For sampling, random sampling method was utilized and accrodingly, the research was carried out with 272 high school teachers. Personal information form, Organizational Learning Mechanisms Scale, and Scale of Innovation at Schools were used to collect research data. The data was analyzed with SPSS 17 software, and frequency, percentage, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, and Spearman Rho correlation tests were executed to be able to analyze the data. According to results of the research, teachers' opinions on organizational learning mechanisms of their schools is at moderate level. On examining the points regarding dimensions of the scale, it is seen that point of 'searching information' dimension is the highest, and the point of 'acquaring and disseminating information' is the lowest. Teachers' opininons on innovation management skills of their administrators' is also investigated and it is seen that their opinions are at 'fairly agree' level. Teachers' opininons regarding the dimensions of the scale are also investigated and it is found that the dimension with the highest point is 'organizational culture and structure' dimension, and the one with the lowest point is ' project management' dimension. Teachers' opinions on innovation management skills of administrators and organizational learning mechanism of schools are also investigated according to theachers' personal traits and no statistically significant difference was observed between teachers' opinions and gender, age, seniority at teaching profession, level of education, marital status and seniority at their current schools. Besides, statistically significant differences are observed between teachers' opinions and teachers' speciality, type of high school, number of students at their schools, number of teachers working at their schools, and number of administrators working at their schools. Moreover, it is asceratined that there is a meaningful, statistically significant and high level relationship between teachers' opinions on innovation management skills of school administrators and organizational learning mechanism at schools.
