The advantages and opportunities of RFID technology in logictics area: An application in Izmir province

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the technology that enables the identification of products or living things by radio waves. Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) model, which aims to reveal the factors that affect the application processes, need for new technologies, and going into the new research is very important. While the growth of İzmir's economy hinges to a large extent on the ability of the logistics industry to operate more efficiently and effectively in the global supply chain system, companies should pay attention to adopt more efficient logistics technologies to provide better services for their customers. In this context; the purpose of this study is to find out the influences of technological, organizational and environmental factors on the adaptation of RFID technology for logistics service providers in İzmir and identify the recognition of RFID technology. The database of the study consists of the data obtained from the questionnaires applied to 43 companies in Izmir province which include factors affecting the adaptation of RFID technology. The data have been statistically evaluated by using reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis. The results obtained from the study have showed that access to technology, adaptation to technological innovation and determination of environmental uncertainties are effective in the adaptation of RFID technology. Human resources quality and government support factors have not been found to be effective in the adaptation of RFID technology. As a result, with this study, the factors that companies should apply before adapting RFID technology to their systems and the awareness of the companies about RFID technology have been determined.
