A review of organizational structures in logistics businesses: The case of Mersin region

In this study, organizational structures of logistics businesses were examined in the light of current trends emerging in the development of local and international logistics industries. After a review of organizational structures in logistics businesses located in the Mersin region through a field research, several suggestions were made in terms of organizing logistic operations.In the first section of the study, basic notions of logistics were addressed and its historical development was reviewed. In the second section, the notion of business organization and business organization models were studied. After examining the logistics business organization notion and reviewing the principles and models of logistics business organization in the third section, fourth section was devoted to a regional field study on the organizational structures of logistics businesses displaying activity in the Mersin region, and the conditions of the logistics industry was discussed for the region.In the last section of the study, the data collected through the field research on organizational structures of logistics businesses located in the Mersin region were subjected to statistical analyzes by use of the SPSS software, and descriptive and exploratory findings were obtained accordingly. In addition, several suggestions were developed for logistics businesses.
