Effects of logistics industry to economy : an application on the OECD countries

Abstract (EN)

Logistics sector provides an important contribution to the economy of the country in a macro way in terms of foreign investment orientation, creating jobs and national income. And in micro way the contribution of logistics sector is seen in terms of improving the competitiveness of the companies. Logistics sector, by providing macro and micro contributions has become the most important key sector in ensuring the competitiveness of the countries. In addition, the logistics sector has also taken an important mission in terms of increasing the competitiveness and revivaling of other sectors. At this point all sectors have now become dependent on the logistics sector. In this thesis, the impact of logistics sector to the economy has been studied for the 1970-2014 period in OECD countries. Unbalanced panel data analysis were used in the study. In OECD countries, in the relevant period, which represents the transport and communications sector variables, it has been found that these variables have a positive and significant impact on economic growth.
