Determination of pain experiences during early post operative period in patients who had lumbar disc hernia repair and their satisfaction with pain management strategies

Abstract (EN)
The study was conducted as a descriptive study to assess the pain experience experienced by the patients with LDH in the early postoperative period, the effect of the analgesics used to reduce the pain severity of the patients, and the satisfaction of the patients' pain management. This universe of the research consisted of patients who underwent Lomber Disc Hernia (LDH) surgery in the department of surgery, Nilüfer Annex of Faculty of Health Sciences Bursa Yuksek Ihtisas Educational Research Hospital University in 2016. The sample of the study consisted of patients who operated between May 8 and November 8, 2017, agreed to participate in the study, met the sampling inclusion criteria, and stayed in the clinic for at least 24 hours postoperatively. Data of work, information collection form was collected using the assessment of the quality of care given to the patient with post-surgery pain scale and patient monitoring form. Face-to-face interview techniques were used to collect research data. In statistical analysis; Sample t test, Anova, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Friedman test were used to evaluate group differences. Pearson correlation coefficient analysis was used to determine associations. In the postoperative pain relief of the patients, the average score of the assessment of the quality of care given to the patient was found to be 51.44 ± 6.61 (14-70), and the mean satisfaction score from pain management was found to be 8.33 ± 1.62 (0-10). As a result; patients who underwent LDH surgery were found to be satisfied with the relief of postoperative pain. Key words: LDH surgery, pain experience, pain management, nursing care, satisfaction
