Determination of Adenosine Deaminase and 5' Nucleotidase enzymes activities on bone marrows cells of leukemic patients

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted on leukocytes obtained from bone marrow of 13 patients examined at Haematology Department with preliminary diagnosisOf the 13 patients with AML and ALL diagosis, 4 patients out of 10 AML patients died while under treatment due to lack of remission. 2 patients with AML left the treatment. One patient out of 3 patients with ALL died during treatment due to lack of remission and 2 ended up with remissionWhen we group patients in one group as leukemic patients; before treatment, the minimum 5?NT enzyme activity was recorded as 1.98 ± 1.51. The enzyme activity in this group after treatment was observed at the maximum as 3.31±2.39. ADA enzyme specific activity in this group was X±SD : 78.94±60.79. The measurements in this group after treatment was recorded with X±SD :10.22±3.68. This results suggest a general increase in 5?NT activity in leukemia as a result of treatment and 5?NT mimics a catalytic pathway enzyme actively in leukemic cells. In contrast with 5?NT activity, ADA activity is suppressed as compared to before treatment. This suggests a contrast behaviour of these two enzymesWhen we group patients in separate two groups as ALL and AML patient groups, 5?NT and ADA activity was found to be higher before remission contrast with the single group of all leukemic patients. In patients with ALL; 5?NT activity could not be measured before treatment and ADA activity was found to be variable.
