Interior space formation of Louis I. Kahn structures

Louis I. Kahn who is one of the pioneers of modern architecture of 20th century, he proved himself after his fifties and left essential works come until today. Among Kahn's works there are similarities between his buildings such as monumentality, imagery, traditional approach, permanence and plainness which are emphasize his design beside modern architecture. The main purpose of the study is to examine the language of expression related to the formation of interior spaces in Louis Kahn's buildings. In this context; Louis Kahn's life style has been searched, the factors which were affecting his architectural identity and it's historic process have been examined. In research section of this study, Fort Wayne Performing Art Center, Exeter College Library and Salk Biology Research Center (La Jolla) which are Louis Kahn's selected buildings have been analyzed according to interior configuration. As a result of the examination, it was concluded that the three structures selected were a common language of architectural expression related to the interior structure of Kahn's buildings. Although certain architectural differences can be seen in the selected structures, it has been determined that each structure summarizes Kahn's other structures, and that the architectural expression between them is the common language. In finding the common language of the interior space formation in these structures of Kahn, the examination of the structures one by one, the comparison between one structure and the other structure itself, and the comparison of all three structures at the same time are in question. This is one of the most important factors in understanding the common architectural expression language in Kahn's structures.
