Social and economical change after the Lausanne treaty in the situation of Jewish minority in İzmir

The population of Jewish, who contribute to the civic culture and give a different taste to it, had fallen away to 1500?s with the anti-minority policies that wew carried out in single party era and the following era, although it was around 40.000 after Turkish Inpedendence War and as a result the community of the Jewish whom the Lozan Alliance gave the status of ?minority? to got into an inevitable process of dissolution.The acceptance of Western fundamental rights and freedom understanding in large scale, the recognition of differences as a richness and tendency of these differences to survive, foregrounding of ethnical and religious micro-nationalities the ideas of ?the Clash and Alliance of Civilizations? and the emergence of minority rights as an important agenda item in the process of Turkey ?EU membership negotiations; all make the Jewish more important and effective than their population proportion.From this point of view in our thesis, we are going to deal with how the Jewish, whom we accept as a richness of İzmir?s history and we see as an important contributor to civic culture, were living at the beginning of 21. century, how they set relationship with each other- state-society, how they keep their religious - cultural - historical heritage and how they experiences the change and what they expect from the state in the negotiation process with EU.
