Abstract (EN)

Substance use not only causes serious problems in the health of the individual who uses it, but also causes social and legal problems in the family of the user and a significant part of the society. The increase in substance use and problems related to use is revealed by research conducted in Turkey and around the world. When the reasons for starting and continuing substance use are examined; It has been determined by the research that reasons such as having a substance user in the family or in the environment, the search for quick and temporary well-being in response to the depressive state caused by the problems, the desire to be included in a group and to have oneself accepted, and easy access to substances are seen as risk factors. It has been observed that the person faces difficulties such as not being able to fulfill his responsibilities, economic deprivation, deterioration in family relations, and being exposed to legal sanctions due to the addiction that develops after trying the substance. It has been observed that not only the drug user but also his family and environment are harmed by the process, are exposed to types of violence, and experience economic deprivation. Negative approaches of family members towards an individual with substance use disorder may cause the substance user to increase and continue using substances, while their functional approaches enable their participation in treatment. In line with this information, the aim of the study is; It is the development of dysfunctional approaches by examining the attitudes, behaviors and approaches of families towards the individual with substance use disorder and revealing their functional and dysfunctional aspects. For this purpose, 12 individuals with substance use disorders and 12 family members who were in the treatment process were interviewed within the framework of the questions in the semi-structured interview form, and the obtained data were analyzed with the MAXQDA 24 program. In line with the data obtained, family support; It has been determined that it contributes to the participation of individuals with substance use disorders in treatment and to the prevention of relapse after treatment.
