Abstract (EN)

In this study, optimum extrusion process parameters for a solid profile planned to be produced from AM50 and AZ31 magnesium alloys with a rectangular cross-section, were determined by virtual analysis. Taguchi L18 orthogonal array was created for process parameters, including die temperature, billet temperature, container temperature, ram speed and die pocket length. As a result of virtual analysis performed with different parameters, required extrusion force, profile outlet temperature, and relative speed difference values were examined. Optimization was carried out and optimum process parameters were obtained. Extrusion experiments were carried out using the optimum process parameters and die geometry. Force and temperature values taken from the process using loadcells and thermocouples were compared with the values obtained from virtual extrusion analysis. The effects of cooling methods on tensile – compression behaviors and microstructural properties of samples are investigated. Tensile and compression tests were carried out with samples taken from extrusion profiles cooled by air and water. Similarly, microstructural properties of the samples taken from profiles cooled by different methods were investigated. In addition, hardness measurements, fracture surface examinations with SEM analysis, and Charpy impact tests were performed for the specified samples and the results were given comparatively.
