Abstract (EN)

Boron combines with other element such as carbon and these molecules are called ?boron minerals? in nature. In industry, production of boron is an expensive and hard process at higher purity. The richest boron reserves are in our country. There are superior boron reserves at Sultancayiri and Bigadic in Balikesir, at Seyitgazi (Kirka) in Eskisehir and around Kutahya.Magnesium borate which is sub?kind of boron minerals shows strong thermal and mechanic properties. Due to their useful properties like higher elastic coefficient, corrosion and thermal resistance, there are a lot of using areas of magnesium borates such as ceramic industry, composition of detergents, production of super-conduction materials, and catalyst of hydrocarbons. In addition to this, because of its boron content, it can be used in production of neutron and gamma radiation antiwear.Magnesium borate production can be classified in two major groups: Hydrothermal and thermal production. In hydrothermal production, which raw materials are reacted in liquid state, magnesium borate hydrates are synthesized at lower temperatures and shorter reaction times than literature. Products which have high crystal properties are synthesized by the changes in parameters. Best results are obtained at 100oC reaction temperature, 240 minutes reaction time and 40oC drying temperature. In these experiments admontite which has the ?01-076-540? reference code is synhthesized at higher purity. Synthesized minerals are called admontite with seven moles of crystal water and mcallisterite with nine moles of crystal water which has ?01-070-1902? reference code.In thermal method, which raw materials are reacted in solid state, high temperature furnaces are used. Products which have high crystal properties are synthesized by the changes in parameters. Best results are obtained at 1000oC reaction temperature, 3:2 and 1:1 ratio of MgO:H3BO3 and 240 minutes reaction time. Synthesized minerals are called kotoite which has ?01-086-0531? references code and suanite which has ?01-070-1902? reference code.In both of these methods, characterization analyses, which are FT-IR and Raman, are applied after the production process. At the end of the characterization stage, similar spectrums are obtained.
