Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine whether the perception of privacy from the past to the present has changed between generations due to new media. In this study, primarily quantitative approaches, descriptive research model and data collection tools and analysis methods of quantitative approaches were used. For this reason, the study was carried out with the questionnaire technique and, in parallel, the content analysis method. The research data were collected through a 37-question questionnaire prepared by the researcher in line with the literature on the new media usage status of the participants. The research includes 154 participants covering X, Y and Z generations. The research was carried out on a voluntary basis and before the data collection, detailed information was given to the participants and their consent was obtained. SPSS 22.0 package program was used in data analysis. Arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used for descriptive analyses. In addition to descriptive analyses, Independent Sample T Test was used to interpret the questions on new media usage according to gender variable, one-way anova for two or more groups, and post-hoc test for differences between groups. Considering the obtained findings; 57.8% of the participants were female and 42.2% were male. When evaluated according to the age variable, 35.1% of the participants stated that they were between the ages of 15-25, 72.1% were between the ages of 26-40 and 27.3% were at the age of 41 and over. While 96.8% of the participants stated that they actively use new media tools; 3.2% of them declared that they do not use new media tools. According to the variable of frequency of social media use, there was a statistically significant difference between the groups in the responses to social media use (p<0.05). When the answers given to the questions about social media use according to the gender variable were analyzed, no statistical significance was found (p>0.05). Historically; From the past to the present, the perception of privacy between generations has caused the perception of privacy to have different meanings in individuals, both due to the developing technology and the culture of showing off, which is the result of the network society. Therefore, we can say that the perception of privacy in the context of new media has undergone an intergenerational transformation.
