The bindingness of verses regarding to the holy book owner for Muslims in the context of Sūrat al-Māʾida

The Qur'ān is a divine book that contains many judgements on ibādāt, muāmelāt and ukubāt. Sūrat al-Māʾida, which is one of the longest surahs in the Qur'ān, is among the surahs that contain orders and prohibitions related to prayer, ethics and morality. The surah, which is understood to have begun to be revealed in 5/627, continued to descend for about two years and is a surah consisting of one hundred twenty verses. It takes its name from the word "Māida" in verses 112-115, which was revealed to Jesus Christ and his Apostles. It is one of the noteworthy points that there are many provisions related to the Ahl al-Kitāb in the surah in addition to the provisions for Muslims. These provisions about Muslims and the Ahl al-Kitāb are intertwined with each other. Of the total 6,236 verses of the Holy Quran, which was sent to guide humanity to the right path, 1,787 are related to stories. Six hundred and ninety-six of these stories are about the People of the Book (Jews and Christians). It is important for Muslims to have the necessary information about the Ahl al-Kitāb, who have had a negative attitude towards the Prophet, Muslims, Islam and the Qur'ān from the early years of Islam until today, and have not avoided enmity at every opportunity. Although some positive aspects of the Ahl al-Kitāb are mentioned in Sūrat al-Māʾida, their negative aspects are generally discussed and a critical style is used against them. In research, along with tafsir and hadith collections, books, articles and theses written in this field have been used. In this context, our aim is not to compile and summarise the studies on the Ahl al-Kitāb up to the present day, but to determine the meaning of the verses about the Ahl al-Kitāb for Muslims in the context of surah Māida and the signs, advice and lessons that Muslims should take from these verses. In other words, it is tried to explain what the verses about the ahl al-Kitāb in Sūrat al-Māʾida say and what message they want to give to Muslims.
