Assessment of sestrin-2 (SESN2), hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α), nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2 (NRF2) level in majör depressive disorder

Abstract (EN)

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a neuropsychiatric disorder that is common all over the world and is an important cause of mortality and morbidity.. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the levels of Sestrin-2 (SESN2), Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1 Alpha(HIF-1α), Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2 Associated Factor 2 (NRF2) and their relationship with the disease in MDD.When the groups were compared in terms of SESN2 and HIF-1α values, a statistically significant difference was found. Serum SESN2, HIF-1α, NRF2 values of the participants were measured by ELISA method in Gaziantep University Biochemistry laboratory. When the patient and control groups were compared in terms of SESN2 and HIF-1α values, a statistically significant difference was found(p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between the NRF2 values of the patient and control groups(p>0.05). In the correlation analysis, a weak and positive correlation was found between the SESN2 and HIF-1α levels of the patients (r=0,361; p=0,000). In the multivariate linear regression analysis, a causal relationship was found between HIF-1α and SESN2 and Beck-D and CGI-S scale scores. To our knowledge, our study is the first to evaluate SESN2 and HIF-1α levels in patients with MDD. We think that SESN2 and HIF-1α will be important in understanding the etiology and pathophysiology of MDD, as well as objectively evaluating the severity of the disorder.
