Evaluation of the 2001 Ohrid Framework Agreement in the context of Macedonian and Albanian natioalism

The Ohri Agreement is the agreement that ended the armed struggle of the Albanians living in Macedonia against the Macedonian Government. The reason for the signing of the treaty is that Albanians turned their long-standing political struggle for their rights into an armed resistance in 2001 and the peace in the country was threatened. In this process, peace negotiations started under the mediation of the USA and the EU, and the Ohrid Agreement was signed on 13 August 2001. Macedonian Government, Albanian representatives, USA and EU representatives took part in the signing process of the treaty. However, the treaty, which aims to prevent ethnic and religious discrimination, has not been successful enough in the implementation process and the views of the parties on the treaty have changed over the years. In this study, the new problems that emerged due to the treaty were discussed with their historical and political dimensions and evaluated in the context of nationalism.
