The Evaluation of teaching programme belomgs to geography course at the primary schools in the Macedania

ABSTRACT Continual evaluations of educational programs are very important to find out the level of reflection of new developments in science and technology in the educational programs and to determine progresses in the program development processes. As it is known, one of the most important roles of the educational institutions is to raise children as a good citizen. In order to find out the deficiencies in the geography programs, such programs should be examined and developed in respect to their scopes, contents, educational processes and evaluations, and further types of elements causing problems in geography teaching should be determined under scientific studies and removed from these programs. This study is conducted to evaluate the geography programs applied in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades of elementary education in Macedonia. Teacher's opinions regarding evaluation of the program are sought. This study is based on sources of data collected in appropriate to the scope of the study and results of the related polls. The study is conducted during 2000 - 2001 academic year, among the teacher's that were teaching in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades of 34 different schools scattered all over Macedonia. All the questionnaires distributed to teachers were responded. Data collection questionnaires consist of; 7 questions on personal information's, 26 questions on existing conditions of geography programs, and 16 suggestions for future of the program. The SPSS package program performed the data processes and evaluations and statistical analysis. The frequencies and percentiles of data also were calculated. The thesis research is consist of four chapters, that are; "Problem", "Methods", "Findings and Comments", and "Results and Suggestions". In the Problem, theoretical information related to geography, program, varieties of programs, elements of programs, and geography programs applications in elementary educations in the Macedonia are explained and the problems are stated. In the Methods, studies performed during research are explained. In the Findings and Comments, teacher's opinions and suggestions regarding Geography Education Programs are given. And finally, in the Results and Suggestions, results of the findings are explained, and suggestions based on these results are listed.
