Minority policy of Republic of Macedonia and it's reflection to the education

Republic of Macedonia is multi ethnical, multi linguistical, multi religious society. Instead of this, it has single ethnical state structure. It has quite democratic Constitution, but in practise it can not show this democratical approach. It has ?covered up? discriminatory policy toward it?s minorities. This is one of the reasons for non satisfaction of its minorities, which had the culmination in the ethnic conflict between the Macedonians and Albanians in 2001, and ended up with signing the Ohrid Framework Agreement under the preasure of the international community. The Ohrid Framework Agreement is based on equale representation of the etnicities in the state institutions.The aim of this study is to show the practical reflections of the Constitution in every day life. In this context it is tried to show the policy of the Republic of Macedonia toward its minorities before and after the Ohrid Framework Agreement. More detailed approach of this policy is made in the area of education. After the Agreement, Macedonia started with its reorganization, which is one of the subjects of this study. The other subject of this study is to show the reflections of these changes in the educational area especially in the history textbooks writting. This is shown by the examples taken from the elementary school history textbooks.Today we can say that the equale representation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement has its reflections only for ethnic Albanians. The right of education in the mother tongue is only Constitutional right, which do not have any special support from the State for its real practical realization. In multi cultural, multi ethnical, multi linguistical and multi religious counturies as Macedonia, history writting has to help reaching tolerans, respect, living together among different ethnicities. But in Macedonia the history writting and history teaching is still in the frames of nationalism and even more showing its own people as ?the other?.
