Abstract (EN)
This thesis focuses on the spatial analysis of the church architecture during the Macedonian Dynasty, which ruled in the Byzantine capital Constantinople between 867 and 1056. The churches constructed during the Macedonian Dynasty can be considered as the subsidiary outputs of the change and development in the middle Byzantine period, which can be also observed in social life, religion, and aristocracy. A new architectural expression developed during the Macedonian Dynasty reflects the artistic expression of this transformation. The church architecture during the Macedonian Dynasty should be analyzed for its significance in representing the changes in social life and architectural history along with their functional features. This thesis examines the spatial design of the churches built during the Macedonian Dynasty on the basis of synthesis, interaction, functionality, and perception, and in a collective context.
