Abstract (EN)

Aim: Dental trauma which can be prevented or treated by early and accurate response is a condition concerning public health. The aim of our study is to measure the long-term prevalence of the dental traumas, finding out the reasons, assessing the future treatments according to the trauma type and the awareness of the health personnel and the society on this subject. Material and Method: Reasons of the trauma, pre-admitting period, trauma types and the treatment methods of the patients aged between 0-16 admitted to İnönü University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Pedodontics between the years of 2010-2018 because of dental trauma were evaluated. Chi-square test was used in the statistical analysis of the data by using SPSS (Windows SPSS for Windows, Ver.22) program. The statistical significance level was calculated as 95% (p <0.05). Results: In 8-year period, 1005 people (632 male, 371 female) had the evidence of dental trauma. Age average was found as 9.47±3.81. 1611 teeth had been identified as affected by trauma. The most frequent dental trauma type was complicated crown fracture (34.4%), whereas the most frequent treatment type was found as root canal treatment (29.7%). %22 of the 1005 people (n=221) showed, it was found that the dental traumas occurred mostly in summer time (28.5%). While the most common cause of dental trauma was prolapsing (59.8%), the most common places where the dental traumas were seen was external parts (42.5%). The first admission place was identified as our faculty (60.4%) and Oral and Dental Health Clinics (26.2%) and Emergency Departments (13.2%) among the admission centers (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is possible to prevent the complications of the most common dental trauma and to be protected from them in the society. In order to prevent the complications due to the dental trauma and to express the importance of the early and accurate intervention, providing training events for the healthcare personnel and the society could be a proper step to be taken.
