Abstract (EN)

In this thesis study, a three-stage model using Genetic Algorithm (GA) was developed for the optimization of bus route networks belonging to the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality and the optimal route network was designed for a sample determined in the center of Malatya Province. In the first stage of the three-stage application in this study, origin-destinaton pairs were randomly selected among the bus stops on the sample area and the shortest paths between these pairs were calculated. After this calculation, the shortest paths that meet the user defined speed, time between vehicle arrivals, maximum and minimum route length, maximum number of routes and vehicle number constraints are stored in a Python list to create a new route network. In the second stage of the application, the objective function values for the route networks from the first stage were calculated and using these values, the fitness values for each candidate route network were calculated. The realization of the third stage was achieved with a GA working over the first two stages. At this stage, the optimal solution was searched in the solution space by using the selection, mutation and crossover operators of GA. The traffic flow data used in this study were obtained from the ALTAŞ Engineering, which prepared Malatya Transportation Master Plan on behalf of the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality. The coordinates of the bus stops and municipal bus routes were taken from the MOTAŞ. The coordinate data used to create the graph of the sample area was produced by the QGIS program.
