Abstract (EN)
Aim: Violence is seen as an increasing public health problem worldwide. We can see that women are exposed to violence the most and violence first occurs in the family. This study aimed to reveal the situation of violence against women, the factors affecting violence and the relationship between violence and depression. Material and Method: Study is a cross-sectional study conducted in January-April 2019 and married women aged 15-49 registered at M. Hanifi Bağdatlı Family Health Center, were included in the study. The sample size was calculated as 292 individuals, with 95% confidence level, 5% deviation and 40% prevalence, and the study was conducted with 398 women. Written permission was obtained from the ethics committee and the provincial health directorate. The questionnaire consists of Personal Information Form, Domestic Violence Against Women Scale and Beck Depression Scale. Results: Young age, low economic income and low education level were found to be risk factors for violence and depression. Women living in an extended family, having an arranged marriage, having a bad relationship with their spouse's family, and exposed to violence in the past have higher scores for violence and depression. Correlation analysis between depression and violence showed a positive relationship. Violence scores were higher in women with possible depression. 30.2% of the participants were exposed to physical violence. Conclusion: Underage marriages and reasons such as low education level, type of marriage and family type, which are thought to be associated with low economic income increase the violence against women. For this purpose, we can say that it is important for the state to take some legal sanctions for young marriages and to take the necessary steps for the education, social and economic recovery of people. Key Words: Violence, violence against women, depression, early marriage.
