Comparative analysis of urban transportation and public transportation systems in Malatya: Example of trambus and light rail system

Transportation is a concept that has maintained its importance since the earliest periods of history because it provides interpersonal interaction and serves as a bridge between sectors. Transportation planning is a field of activity where many societies have problems in realizing and the results are severe. ransportation planning needs to be done sensitively in order to be positively affected by the sectors affected by transportation. Urban transportation is important in terms of carrying out the activities in the cities in a complete way and increasing the quality of life of the individuals. The unbalanced distribution of Transportation Systems has increased the traffic load of the highways and this has brought about many traffic problems. Due to these problems, eyes must be turned to the rail system in urban transportation. The rail system is much more advantageous than the highways in terms of capacity, speed, comfort and safety. In this study, the urban public transportation systems of Malatya city, which is an eastern Anatolia region province and does not yet have a rail public transportation system, are examined. The Trambus project, which was implemented in 2015, attempted to analyze the efficiency of urban public transportation by comparing it with rail systems. The study attempted to determine the suitability of the city's physical and intellectual infrastructure for a possible light rail system. In this context, interviews were conducted at the designated institutions and evaluations were made in line with the answers to the questions.
