Abstract (EN)

DEVELOPING KNOWLEDGE BASED SYSTEM FOR MATERIAL SELECTION AND APPLICATION OF CAST ALUMINUM ALLOYS Keywords : Material Selection, Knowledge-based Systems, Cast Aluminum Alloy SUMMARY Like most engineering efforts, materials selection is a problem-solving and decision making process. In this process, designer analyses the required properties of materials for their using area. Then he list alternative candidate materials. Finally, he evalatuates the candidate materials and chooses the material that gives the best match or represents the best compromise possible in light of experience, judgment, common sense, processing ease and acceptable cost. In this work, after the descripsion of the development of acknowledge based system for material selection, the selection of cast aluminum alloys that gives the best solution to the designer or producer among the other used aluminum alloys in the manufacturing is carried out using a knowledge-based system. Knowledge base is prepared according to the basic characteristics of aluminum alloys and casting characteristics and other properties the connection of experienced expert questions. In material selection, knowledge bases are collections of expertise or expert(material scientist or engineer) knowledge that may include anything from basic information(material property nad basic characteristics etc.) about a field of knowledge to guidelines for reasoning about information, in order to make decisions and do tasks. The relation between knowledge-based systems and expert systems is easy to define. A KBS(knowledge-based system) is a system in which the knowledge base is largely distend from the inferencig mechanism or prosedüre. Expert system is general term that may be applied to a wide range of more advanced computer systems described as interactive decision support systems. The components of a KBS for material selection: Knowledge base, inference engine and control mechanism, user interface and computer hardware. vni
