Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the removal of atrazine and RBBR dyestuff from aqueous media with manganese oxide was performed. The effects of solution pH, manganese oxide amount, initial dyestuff concentration and temperature during the adsorption process of manganese oxide and RBBR dyestuff were investigated. The appropriate pH value for the RBBR dyestuff was determined as 7. It was observed that with increasing initial RBBR dyestuff concentration, RBBR dyestuff adsorption efficiency decreased and adsorption capacity increased. Maximum removal efficiency and capacity were obtained at 30 oC and dye removal efficiency was 96.65% at 25 mg/L of initial RBBR concentration. Experimental results for RBBR dye removal at 30, 40 and 50 oC were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. It has been observed that the Langmuir model better describes the adsorption equilibrium for the RBBR dyestuff. According to the Langmuir model, the maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) of manganese oxide for RBBR dyestuff was found to be 250.00, 243.90 and 232.56 mg/g at 30, 40 and 50 oC temperatures, respectively. The experimental results obtained in the adsorption of RBBR dyestuff by manganese oxide were applied to the pseudo-first and second order kinetic models and their kinetic constants were calculated. The obtained results showed that the adsorption of RBBR dyestuff by manganese oxide follows the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The effects of solution pH, manganese oxide amount, initial atrazine concentration and temperature were investigated during the adsorption process of atrazine with manganese oxide. The appropriate pH value for atrazine has been determined as 10. It was determined that by increasing the initial atrazine concentration, the atrazine adsorption efficiency decreased and the adsorption capacity increased. The atrazine removal efficiency was found to be 98.70% at the initial atrazine concentration of 0.5 mg/L and at 30 oC. Adsorption is a promising technology for the removal of persistent organic materials. From this point of view, in this thesis, manganese oxide was produced by reflux method and was used in atrazine and dyestuff removal. As a result, manganese oxide can be used as a promising adsorbent in the effective removal of RBBR dyestuff and atrazine from contaminated water.
