Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT MSc Thesis THE INVESTIGATION OF CHIP REMOVAL MACHINABILITY OF HIGH Cr AND Ni STAINLESS STEELS WITH Mn AND Si ADDITIVE Mehmet YAZ Fırat University The Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Machine Training 1999, Page 84 In this study, the machinability of the stainless steels with 10-12 percent Cr and Ni was investigated by using HSS lathe cutters. With this aim chip was removed by HSS cutters ground with proper angels in various machining speeds and the tool lieves of cutting tools were determined. After machining, the amount of wear of the cutters was measured and the worn surfaces were determined by taking micro photographs. In addition, the hardness values of the machined specimens were measured and the micro structures were examined with optical microscope. In the first chapter of this study, general information about machinability and a table on the machinability of different materials are given. In the general information on cutting tools, the test methods of cutting tools and common failures of cutting tools are discussed. In the fourth chapter tool wear test of Taylor is explained in detail. In the fifth chapter the stainless steels, their machinability, the elements having positive effect on machinability such as S, Se, Te, Pb, Bi and P are dealt with. In the following chapters the experimental studies, the results of the experiments and, conclusions and discussions on the study are presented. Keyword: Machinability, Stainless Steel, Cr-Ni Steels.
