Effect of instruction with manipulatives to mathematics success of 11th grade students

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of instruction on the summation symbol, summation rules with manipulatives on 11 th grade students learning and success. The research was applied in Bakırköy İmam Hatip High School in İstanbul. 49 students from two different classes who were in the 11 th grades were involved in the study. Students in the control group were taught with paper-pencil approaches and traditional methods while the students in the experiment group were taught with various manipulatives by the researcher. Quasi-experimental design with experiment and control groups was used. Students are given pre-test before the application and post-test after the application. The datas obtained were analysed by the SPSS packet program and compared by independent t-test. The results showed that the students who were taught with various manipulatives were more successful than the students who were taught with paper-pencil approaches and traditional method.
