Abstract (EN)
In the scope of this thesis, the amplification property of the earthquake motion, the risk ofliquefaction and probable settlements have been analyzed in the selected locations ofCentral Manisa. In the analysis, the 9 July 1998 Earthquake acceleration records have been considered. Themaximum horizontal accelerations in the bed rock of Central Manisa have been determinedby the damping relations which are offered by Sadigh (1993). In damping relations, ManisaPublic Works Directorate Station records have been used. In the analysis of amplification ofCentral Manisa region, the software EERA (Equivalent-Linear Earthquake ResponseAnalysis) has been used. Additional and detailed information about the software can be foundon the web site: http://geoinfo.usc.edu/gees. The soil amplification analyses and the softwareare based on the equivalent-linear soil response model, which is illustrated in section 3.1.During the earthquake, while the seismic waves travel through the soil, they force theparticles to displace lessening the porosity of them, making permanent and opposite directionforce couples (shear stress). Because of this permanent motions? short period displacement, the pore water pressure of the soil increases. When this pore water pressure gets equal to thevertical effective stress, the soil behaves like a liquid and this incident is called liquefaction. Inthe literature, the ratio of shear force?s which is formed during the earthquake to verticaleffective-stress value is called Cyclic Stress Ratio (CSR). In the saturated sandy soils therecan be a risk of liquefaction if CSR value gets greater than the soil?s Cyclic Resistance Ratio. The analysis of liquefaction and depending on liquefaction the settlement analysis is notmade, since the soils which are researched in the scope of this thesis don?t contain saturatedsandy soils.XI
