The evaluation of use of health services and related factors in Manisa city center

Aim: The data on hospitalization is important for planning health services. We aimed to determine the use of hospital care and related factors in Manisa City Center in 2009.Methods: We acceseed a representative sample (n=2.979) in Manisa city. We used cluster sampling approach. The data on hospitalization within the last 1 year before the survey were collected by face to face interviews. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows 11.0. Chi square test post hoc analyses, logistic regression analyses were used data analysis.Results: Of the study population, 6.2% reported that they had an illness for inpatient are within the last year before the survey. The percentage of using inpatient care within the last year before the survey was 5.9%. Hospitalization rate was higher among people aged 15-49 years (OR, 1.67; 95% CI 1.05- 2.65), among people aged 50-64 years (OR, 2.13; 95% CI 1.23-3.70), among people aged 65-74 years (OR, 4.50; 95% CI 2.35-8.61) and among people aged over 75 years (OR, 5.58; 95% CI 2.79-11.13). Of those people hospitalized, 65% were used state hospitals, 20.5% were used university hospitals and 14.5% were used private hospitals. İnpatient diagnostic and treatment services in private hospitals received increased over the years. Surgical operation rate in Manisa city center private hospitals (79.3 %) higher than Manisa State Hospital (47.9 %) and Manisa Merkez Efendi State Hospital (31.7 %)Conclusion: We concluded that hospitalization services were accessible for different groups in Manisa City Center.Key words: Private hospital, waiting time, length of stay
