Özet (EN)
Aim: Reliable reference intervals are important for productive interpretation of laboratory data. Because many analytes vary notably among gender, age, ethnicity, nutritional and environmental factors, each laboratory need to assess their own reference ranges. For the accreditation of laboratories it is needed that every laboratory should calculate according to specified criterion. In this study, we have aimed to assess reference intervals of healthy reference subjects in Manisa region of serum paraoxonase(PON) and arylesterase(ARE) activities and lipid hydroperoxside(LOOH) levels which are among important parameters of oxidant-antioxidant balance.Materials and Methods: In our study, venous blood samples were obtained after 12 hours of fasting from 233 individuals, who are at the age limit of 20-67 years at Celal Bayar University Medical Biochemistry Laboratory in Manisa. PON and ARE enzyme activities and LOOH levels were analysed using fully automatic analyzers and readymade kits. Descriptive statistical criteria were determined using SPSS 15.0 soft ware. Student t test was used for statistical analyzes of the means in two groups. ANOVA test was used for statistical analyzes of the means in three groups and Tukey test was used for the post hoc test. Results : According to our study results, the reference value of serum PON activity was 56.8-567.3 U/L; reference value of ARE activity was 157.9-745.0 U/L and reference value of LOOH was 1.09-10.39 µmol/L in women and 0.42-16.04 µmol/L in men. There was no statistical difference in gender for activities of PON and ARE but for LOOH levels the results were higher in the male subjects than the female. PON ARE and LOOH levels were not significantly different for age and BMI.Conclusion: This study is original, because this is the first study conducted on reference ranges of PON, ARE and LOOH in our region. Therefore, we believe that, this study can contribute to larger population studies.Key Words: Paraoxonase, Arylesterase, Lipid Hydroperoxide, Reference Interval.
