Abstract (EN)

Natural and synthetic dyes are widely used in many industries where food, medicine, cosmetics, paper, leather, plastic and textile products are produced. Most synthetic dyes are toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic. They also resist biodegradation and, due to their long-term persistence in the environment, cause pollution, which has become a serious problem worldwide. In this thesis, magnetic polymeric resin was synthesized and used as an adsorbent in adsorption studies. Remazol Brilliant Blue R dyestuff was used as adsorbate. The magnetic resin was prepared using radical addition polymerization, modification and co-precipitation methods. Maleic anhydride (MA), glycidylmethacrylate (GMA) monomers, divinyl benzene (DVB) crosslinker and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) were used as initiator in the resin synthesis. Tetraethylene penta-emine (TEPA) was used in the resin modification, and FeCl3.6H2O/FeCl2.4H2O was used in the magnetization process. The synthesized resin was characterized by FTIR, SEM EDX, TEM, TGA, VSM, BET techniques and also the surface pHpzc value of the resin was determined. The use of basic magnetic resin as an adsorbent in the removal of anionic Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) dye from aqueous solutions was investigated. For this purpose, the effects of adsorbent amount, pH, initial dye concentration, time and temperature on adsorption were investigated. It was determined that the adsorption of RBBR dye to the developed magnetic resin was in accordance with the Langmuir isotherm. When examined using adsorption kinetic models, it was seen that the experimental data were compatible with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. As a result of thermodynamic calculations, it was determined that the adsorption process was endothermic for the RBBR dye. As a result of the studies, it was observed that the magnetic polymeric resin developed was an effective adsorbent for RBBR removal from aqueous solutions.
