Determination of the problems related to the forage crops production and range management in districks of Kiziltepe in Mardin province

This study was conducted to determine the problems on the forage crops production and range management in the ten neighbourhoods of (Arıtepe, Başak, Büyüktepe, Elbeyli, Halkalı, Hocaköy, Karakuyu, Sevimli, Yaşar and Yolüstü) Kızıltepe district in the province of Mardin. To create a resource for the works to be done for the reclamation of regional in the following years was aimed by this study. Survey questions were prepared for this purpose and the survey was made by interviewing face to face with one hundred producers live in ten neighbourhoods selected randomly. It was determined that 59% of the farmers were generally from the old group of 50 and over 50 40 years old. 43% of the farmers have primary school educated, 26% high school, 21% secondary school, 16% university and 4% did not go to school. According to the results of survey the most important problem of the producers did not enough knowledge about the forage crops production and, due to high feed prices, insufficient and poor of the meadow-pasture areas, the majority of the producers have used the industrial fodder and straw for the feeding their animals in the regional. It is understood that the majority of the producers do not have any information in details about the Pasture Law No. 4342 and want the improvement of pasture in the region. İn addition, it was concluded in the study that training the producers on animal health would be beneficial.
