Living in Nusaybin district of Mardin province musuc culture in Mardin province

This study presents information about the musical culture of the Dom community living in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province. Located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, the Nusaybin district of Mardin province is an important settlement where various ethnic groups and communities live together. Nusaybin has hosted many civilizations throughout history and carries cultural traces that have brought the cultural heritage left by these ancient civilizations to the present day. These cultural traces are clearly seen in the architectural texture of the city, local traditions and musical practices. Nusaybin's culturally rich past gives this region characteristic features. One of the communities that hold an important place in the historical texture of Nusaybin is the Doms. It is thought that the Doms, as a part of the ethnic diversity in the region, have made significant contributions to the cultural mosaic of Nusaybin. The Dom communities, which are spread to different regions of Turkey and known by various names, are most commonly referred to as "Dom", but are also known by names such as Çingene, Romani, Karaçi/Kereçi, Âşık, Pirpiri and Mıtırp/Mıtrıp. The native languages spoken by the Dom vary depending on the regions they live in. This variety of languages gives their musical culture originality and authentic identity. The Doms, who traditionally live a nomadic life, carry their cultural elements to the places they go and create a rich and different cultural structure. It has been determined that music has an important place in the cultural life of the Dom community living in the Nusaybin district of Mardin. Within the scope of the research, musical practices specific to the Doms were examined and important findings were obtained. In particular, compilation studies were conducted on the rebap instrument specific to the Dom community and the melodies played with this instrument; these melodies were notated, analyzed and transferred to the study.
