Ill STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF EARTHQUAKE OCCURRENCES IN MARMARA REGION (MSc. Thesis) Ülkü GÜRLEN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECNOLOGY December 2001 ABSTRACT In this study, statistical analyses have been done for 447 earthquake occurrences data, between North (39.50-41.50) and East (26.00-32.50) coordinates in Marmara Region from 1900 to 2000. Firstly, this data have been classified according to their magnitudes, depth, night-day time, season, periods of ten years, months and it has been investigated whether the time has influence on magnitudes of earthquakes and their total numbers. Then, the curve estimation models have been fitted between occurrence frequencies and the magnitudes of earthquakes. Moreover, annually, average magnitude values and total earthquake numbers have been modeled as time series analysis. In addition, it has been found that the probability density and distribution functions of magnitude random variable and then the repeating years of earthquakes at various magnitudes have been obtained.IV Science Code Key Words Page Number Adviser 406.02.01 Statistical Analysis, earthquake magnitude, time series, curve estimation models, probability density and distribution functions 110 : Assoc.
