Abstract (EN)

Marrubium vulgare L., white horehound, or bozotu in Turkish is a perennial medicinal plant of the Lamiaceae family, which is used in folk medicine. The worldwide interest to M. vulgare preparations in recent years, urjed the need to evaluate the potential of plant raw materials originated from Turkey. To compare the Pharmacopoeia quality of culture and commercial plant materials, standard herbal drug was used for the experiments. Initially, macroscopic and microscopic evaluation was followed by phytochemical and biological evaluations. Analtyical techniques such as thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy, high pressure liquid chromatography as well as biological evaluations such as in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant assays were comparatively conducted. As an overall result, more detailed phytochemical and bioactivity elaborations of M. vulgare preparations from Turkish orjigin need to be performed to meet the Pharmacopoial standarts.
