The effect of relative humidity on fatigue, physical activity level and quality of life of among desk workers

This study investigates the effect of relative humidity on fatigue, physical activity and quality of life among desk workers; 100 individuals with a mean age of 38,06±12,68 year from Bolu (n = 100) having a lower humidity density and 148 individuals with a mean age of 37,93±6,97 year living in Yalova (n = 148) with a higher humidity and 248 individuals were included. Relative humidity measurement was performed with Impact Tastotherm-Hum RP 2 portable relative humidity (RH) meter Psychrometer. The Fatigue Severity Scale was performed to measure fatigue severity, the physical activity levels were measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire and quality of life status was assessed with Nottingham Health Profile. Measurements were made between 13.30 and 16.00 in the afternoon during working hours. In Bolu province, the relative humidity density of the desk environment was 51,86±3,36% RH and in Yalova the relative humidity density of the desk environment was 68,76±4,48% RH. When the relative humidity density, fatigue severity values and quality of life values of the working individuals were compared, it was seen that there was a significant difference in favor of Bolu province (p <0.05). When the physical activity levels of the desk-based individuals were compared, no significant difference was observed (p> 0.05). As a result of the study; There was a significant difference between high relative humidity and fatigue severity and quality of life (p <0.05), while there was no significant difference between high relative humidity and physical activity levels (p> 0.05).
