Examination of teachers' opinions on association of mathematics lesson with different lessons

The purpose of this research is to examine the opinions of teachers about associating mathematics lessons with different lessons. Research; This is a qualitative study in which 38 mathematics teachers working in secondary schools affiliated to Siirt Provincial Directorate of National Education constitute the sample. The research is an example of case study from qualitative research methods. The study group of the research was chosen as a purposeful sample; It consists of teachers who are actively working in secondary schools in every part of the city center and in the districts, forming a wide spectrum in terms of service time. The data collection tools of the research are the semi-structured interview form and the activity template prepared by the researcher. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and clinical interviews; were subjected to content analysis and descriptive analysis. Themes and sub-themes were created in line with the answers given to the semi-structured interview questions, and the data were analyzed considering these themes; Findings are presented as answers to sub-problems. In the presentation of the findings, qualitative and quantitative data were used together. Some conclusions were reached in line with the findings of the study. Teachers mostly stated that associating mathematics lesson with other lessons would contribute positively to students' mathematical skills, and they stated that they did not use these associations frequently in their lessons because of concerns such as problems in time management, the dominant lesson and going out of its achievements. However, the opinions of the teachers who benefit from these associations in their lessons; They observed that association-based activities have positive contributions to students' ability to develop positive attitudes towards mathematics, permanent learning, and concretization of abstract concepts. In addition, it is also among the results that the courses that can be most associated with the mathematics course can be science, visual arts, music and physical education courses, respectively. Finally, within the framework of the template given to the teachers within the scope of the research, they were also asked to plan activities based on associating mathematics lessons with visual arts, music and physical education lessons. These activity examples were also evaluated superficially by the researcher and presented in the findings section so that they can be used by teachers and researchers.
