Examination of research focus of mathematics teacher trainers

The aim of the study is to examine the compatibility of the academic backgrounds of mathematics teacher educators working in Turkey with their research focus. In the first part of the research, a framework has been created regarding who the teacher educator and mathematics teacher educator are in the literature, and how the mathematics teacher educators realize their professional learning/development. Research questions were created and a descriptive survey was conducted in order to examine the compatibility of the academic backgrounds of mathematics teacher educators with their graduate and doctorate academic fields, the compatibility of the articles they wrote with their academic backgrounds and the academic field compatibility of their project studies, the distribution of tasks in their project studies with their academic backgrounds, and the academic type distribution of the projects. Classification of the academic backgrounds of 478 mathematics teacher educators working in Turkey between 2019-2021 on the YÖK Akademik web page, determining the duration of their professional experience, academic types of article studies, academic studies of project studies areas, their tasks in the project studies and the classification of the types of projects were made. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the academic backgrounds of mathematics teacher educators (pure mathematics, mathematics education, other) and their academic fields in article and project studies are compatible.
