Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of mathematical modeling method on student achievement of linear equation in junior high school mathematics class in secondary school. In this study, pre- test and post-test unequal control group semi-trial model was used. A total of six events have been created, considering the gains of the linear equations. The research was carried out in a public school in Yakutiye district of Erzurum province in the second semester of 2012-2013 academic year. The sample of the research consists of a total of 40 students, 20 students in the experimental group and 20 students in the control group. The Linear Equations Knowledge Test, which was developed and whose reliability was calculated by the researcher, was used as a data collection tool. A linear equations knowledge test was applied for the experimental group and the control group as a preliminary test. While the lessons were taught by mathematical modelling method in the experimental group, curricular activities have been taught in the control group. The application was processed for 3 weeks, meaning 9 teaching hours. At the end of the training, a knowledge test prepared applied for the both groups as a final test. According to the research findings, it was determined that the students' achievement of both groups increased, in addition, there is a significant difference in favour of the experimental group when the successes of the two groups were compared. As a result, it has been determined that teaching mathematical modelling method increases the students' achievement.
