Abstract (EN)
İntroduction and Objective: Pregnancy is characterized by insülin resistance, andplacental hormones has been significant effect in development of insülin resistance.Insülin resistance makes placental dysfunction and increases pregnancycomplications such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, intrauterine growthrestriction. Several studies support the function of the regulation of adipose tissue ininsulin resistance. Adipocytokines from adipose tissue in this context has been thesource of research. Visfatin is a new adipocytokines that isolated by Fukuhara et alhas metabolic and immune functions. This molecule in the blood is thought to be apioneer in creating pre-eclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction. The aim of ourstudy is to inspect the relation of the new adipocytokine visfatin with preeclampsiaand intrauterine growth restriction which are the common pregnancy complicationsthat presently investigating about their etiopathogenesis, and examine visfatin?s placeand importance in preeclampsia.Materials and methods: We started our study with 90 patients. In our study theparticipant?s blood samples were taken at third trimester before induction and laborin our service and polyclinic. The participants of patients groups had preeclampsiaand intrauterine growth restriction. The control group consisted of healthypregnancy. After sampling, serum was separated by centrifugation at 4000 G for 10min and the obtained serum samples were kept frozen at -80°C until assay. Serumvisfatin levels were measured using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The results of patients and controls were compared and then the correlation with thisdiseases investigated. Patients were excluded from the study who have fetal anomaly,autoimmune disease, vascular disease and multiple pregnency. The study wascompleted by 88 patients.Results: Maternal serum visfatin levels did not differ between healthy control andpatients. Patients were separated four groups which were mild preeclampsia, severepreeclampsia, preeclampsia+ intrauterine growth restriction and intrauterine growthrestriction. Maternal serum visfatin levels did not differ between four groups.Conclusions: We think that serum visfatin levels don?t effect the pathophysiology ofpreeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction.Key words: Preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, visfatin.
