Mechanical properties of jute/glass fiber reinforced epoxy base composite

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the impact, tensile and flexural properties filled epoxy matrix based hybrid laminate of jute/glass fiber reinforced composite laminates. Multi configurations were fabricated as (G8, G3J2G3, G2J4G2, G4J4/G, J4G4/J, J2GJ2GJ2, J3G2J3, JGJ4GJ, GJ6G and J8) were investigated by Charpy impact, tensile and flexural test. The composite laminates were fabricated by hand lay-up process. The Charpy impact test of fabricated composite laminates was conducted following ISO 179/92 standard by Köger 3/70 Charpy impact test machine. The tensile and flexural tests were conducted by following ASTM D638-10 for uniaxial tensile and ASTM D790-10 for three-point bending. The results showed an increase in absorbing impact energy of the edgewise specimens of jute/glass hybrid configuration were 147.11 % and 424.52% for JG6J configuration compared with G8 and J8 respectively. And from flatwise the increase were 36.98% and 233.33% for G3J2G3 configuration compared with G8 and J8 respectively. The maximum flexural strength and flexural modulus of hybrid composites was obtained for the configuration G3J2G3 it was 411.25 MPa and 7.51 GPa respectively. The maximum tensile strength and tensile modulus of hybrid composites was obtained for the configuration G3J2G3 it was 160.42 MPa and 5.73 GPa respectively.
