Nature in Majid Majidi's cinema

Cinema is not merely a form of entertainment and fine art; rather, it is a powerful tool for making sense of life and its contents. Drawing from various fields such as art, science, philosophy, and sociology, cinema not only encompasses these disciplines but also contributes to them. It can serve as an important resource for exploring the topic of 'nature,' which is one of the most notable and thought-provoking subjects of our time. The world-renowned Iranian director, Majid Majidi, frequently incorporates elements of nature into his films, treating nature not merely as a backdrop or a supplementary element but rather as an integral part of his films. This study aims to explore the concept of nature by analyzing three of the director's films—'Color of Paradise,' 'The Song of Sparrows,' and 'The Willow Tree'—using semiotic methods. Contrary to the general approach, the aim is not to understand the films through various elements of nature but rather to embark on a conceptual exploration of nature, based on the films. In this regard, prominent natural elements in Majidi's cinema are analyzed, leading to various insights into the concept of nature. Through cinema, which serves as a unique resource, significant conclusions have been drawn regarding nature, human-nature relationships, environmental issues, and humanity, all of which are crucial aspects of today's world.
