Abstract (EN)

George Gerbner, one of the mainstream communication theorists, says that the analysis on mass media will remain superficial without fully understanding the industrial and market relations. In this thesis study, ownership concentration in the media, which has existed in the media sector since the past and which has made great progress especially after neo-liberal policies, has been tackled from the liberal pluralistic intellectual foundations it has emerged from. Industrial structures and market relations are tried to be explained by mentioning the market structures, the phenomenon of concentration and the ownership concentration of the Turkish media sector before and after 1980. The impacts of ownership concentration in media organizations were first examined using the critical discourse analysis model on whether there is a variety of expression in the news in the newspapers belonging to the same media group. Other impacts have been explained with examples and then solution suggestions have been presented. Ownership concentration has been found to reduce the diversity of expression, and other effects have been found to be an obstacle to the public interest, the primary function of the media.
