Expert journalism in the media: Defense journalism in Turkey

Defense Industry is one of the most important issues for countries. Because the stronger a country is in the defense industry, the stronger it is in foreign policy. In the international arena, the defense industry, which is one of the factors that determine the economic and political power of the countries, is developing day by day. The main factor of this development is the importance of countries to this issue and the transfer of resources, as well as the developments in technology. Currently, the defense industry needs constant innovation, projects and change. Our country is an important country due to its geopolitical position. For this reason, the primary goal of the Turkish Defense Industry is to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, to make the country popular in the international defense industry market and subsequently in foreign policy. The recent importance of the defense industry and especially the investments made by Turkey in the defense industry sector have led to the existence of journalists specializing in this field. A new one has been added to the field of journalism specialization and the field of "Defense Journalism" has been formed. In this study, general information about the Turkish Defense Industry is given and the importance of the sector is emphasized. In addition, the representatives in the sector related to the field of "Defense Journalism" are interviewed. The findings obtained within the scope of the interviews made with the written interview technique, reveal the opinions of the experts working in the field of journalism in Turkey on defense journalism. As a result of the findings, it was concluded that defense journalism in Turkey has developed compared to the past, but is still not at the desired level, and it has been argued that progress will be achieved in this field with the sector's work on this issue.
