Abstract (EN)

Turkey has spent the years of 2000 by struggling with massive economic crises. Named as "Black Wednesday" in 2001 and "Global Crisis" in 2008, these crises had versatile reasons and factors. Continuing currency and debt crisis in Turkey has re-emerged with the negative consequences of diplomatic relations. In 2018 political crises and events that occurred in the country administration and with foreign countries caused the economic crisis to deepen. Priest Andrew Brunson event, a political and an economic crisis for both Turkey and the United States (US), has become an international political crisis. Turkey has experienced serious losses in the event where political and economic reflections on the situation affect the world in general. It is a big cruosity how the issue, having a large place in the Turkish press, is interpreted and conveyed in newspapers. In this study, it is tried to examine how the media, which has economic and political capital structure, is positioned in the face of this event. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine how and with which statements currency crisis, which experienced after the tension between Turkey and the US with the problem of Priest Brunson, took place in Turkish press in the framework of the media's political economy. Besides, it is tried to be determined whether the newspapers reflect the ideology of the institutions they have. In the study, one-month internet news portals and printed copies of 6 national newspapers were examined. Two basic research methods were applied in coordination for the determination of discourses and ideologies in the news texts. For this purpose, discourse analysis and content analysis methods have been used. Findings that were obtained as a result of the study showed that newspapers close to the government formed rhetoric repeating power; however, opposition newspapers desing their texts with a critical discourse.
