A reflection of class applications of teachers using megedep platform: Evaluation of the algebra achievement of students

Although algebra, which is one of the components of mathematics, plays an important role in both mathematics learning and teaching, students have difficulties and fail in algebra. Algebra teaching has great importance in overcoming these difficulties and failures. On the basis of algebra teaching, there are teachers who implement teaching programs and methods students' thinking and questioning. This research has been carried out within the scope of TUBITAK 1001-Supporting Scientific and Technological Research Projects Program by the Web Based System of Supporting the Professional Development of Secondary School Mathematics Teachers by Learning Trajectory (MEGEDEP). With this project, the professional development of secondary school mathematics teachers in the field of algebra learning through a web-based training platform was supported by modeling learning trajectories. The overall aim of this study is to evaluate the reflections of classroom applications of secondary school mathematics teachers on algebraic success of students. The study has been carried out with 454 seventh grade students. The data of the research were collected by Algebra Achievement Test. When the findings which are obtained from the study have been analyzed, it has been observed that the professional development given to the teachers by taking the learning trajectories model affected the students algebraic achievement positively. The findings also indicate that there is a relationship between the development of teachers in the project process and the students' algebraic achievement; the more the teachers develop themselves, the more successful their students will be.
