Mehmed Cavid Bey and İzmir assassination

Numerous studies were conducted about the life of Mr. Mehmed Cavid, who is the determinant of the fiscal policies of the party of Union and Progress, and his services. During The Second Constitutional Era, Mr. Mehmed Cavid served as deputies of Thessaloniki and Çanakkale, as well as the Ministries of Finance and Ministries of Public Works, and provided important services to the country. Not only he was a valuable economist who European capital markets and statesmen described as "The man who understands money in Turkey", but also he succeeded in being a politician. In our study, after the important stages of Mr. Mehmed Cavid's life were given, his trial in the Independence Courts because of the 1926-İzmir assassination incident was examined. Even if years passed, the decision that was given during the trials of Mr. Mehmed Cavid, who was sentenced to death by the Ankara Independence Court, was questioned whether it was political.In the first three chapters of our thesis, it is extremely important to give Mr. Mehmed Cavid's life, thoughts and services until 1926 and to find answers to the questions asked in the Independence Courts in his diaries. Also, these sections are really necessary to show that Mr. Mehmed Cavid had to defend the governments which he was being in duty during the trials of 1919 - Armenian deportation and 1926-Izmir assassination. In the fourth chapter, the Izmir assassination event and the establishment of the Independence Court, and the process until the arrest of Mr. Mehmed Cavid were examined. And also, in the last chapter, according to the judgments and sources, the situation of Mr. Mehmed Cavid was examined. Considering them, it was tried to determine whether he was really guilty in the assassination attempt or a victim of the liquidation process of the Unionists.
