Life, art and divance of Mehmed Tayfur Hâmid Efendi (Analysis-text-facsimile)

Anthologies are among the most valuable sources in the history of Turkish literature. They hold a significant place in providing information about poems and poets not mentioned in biographical works or collections of biographies. Recent research and studies have increased the number of works in this field, demonstrating that anthologies are among the most important sources of Turkish literature. In particular, anthologies are like treasures, serving as significant resources for our cultural and historical heritage. Anthologies can be regarded as individuals' personal notebooks, as the notes they contain are presented with literary taste and appreciation. Various classifications of anthologies have been made, dividing them by type and subject. The manuscript within the scope of our study was compiled by Mehmed Tayfur Hâmid. This work is registered under the archive number S.Ö 18809 in the Seyfettin Özege Manuscript Collection of Atatürk University Central Library. The work, cataloged as a "poetry collection" in the library, is, in fact, a small divan (divançe) by Mehmed Tayfur Hâmid Bey. This is evident as all the poems, except those by three other poets, belong to Hâmid. In the first part of our study, biographical information about Mehmed Tayfur Hâmid is presented, and his artistic qualities are interpreted through some of his poems. This is followed by a description of the manuscript and information on the types of poems it contains. In the second part, a transcription of the manuscript is provided, accompanied by its facsimile reproduction.
